The Generous Gift-Giver

The following prayer in Ephesians has been a favorite Scripture of mine since the beginning of highschool. There is so much in this passage, but one thing in particular that has really been standing out to me recently is that there is nothing we can "do" in our own strength to gain either the power of the Holy Spirit, the faith that comes through Christ in our hearts, or the understanding of His never-ending love. They are free and generous gifts from the Lord.

"That [the Father] would grant you,
according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with power
through His Spirit in the inner man,
so that Christ may dwell in your
hearts through faith; and that you,
being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge,
that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God."
Ephesians 3:14-19

The Lord is waiting to give us these gifts--yet, we must ask for them! He wants us to seek Him as the Source of all; in doing so, He not only wants to bless us with these gifts, but more importantly, He wants us to learn more about His character through our seeking. Sometimes He calls us to wait on His perfect timing--it is during these seasons that He wants to move us into a deeper intimacy with Him, BUT we must keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking (Matthew 7:7-8). He will open the door. If there was no wait in the release of these gifts to their fullest, then we would be missing out on the opportunity to experience God in a mighty new way.

I have also come to the recent realization that the fullness of God is MUCH much bigger than my mind can fathom. And He wants to fill me up! The only question is: will I let Him?
